The ADP report, based on anonymized payroll data from over 25 million U.S. employees, offers a high-frequency, independent outlook of private-sector employment trends. It includes both monthly job gains and weekly employment data from the prior month, providing real-time insights into the evolving labor market landscape.

The report’s Payroll Employment metric represents the total number of workers on ADP client payrolls, delivering a comprehensive view of hiring activity across various sectors and business sizes.

Pay Insights Dataset Grows to 14.8 Million Observations

As of January 2025, ADP’s Pay Insights tool now tracks nearly 14.8 million monthly pay change observations, a significant increase from the 10 million recorded at launch. This expanded dataset enables a more detailed understanding of wage dynamics and labor market shifts across the U.S.

ADP Chief Economist Highlights Strong Performance Despite Headwinds

“Despite economic uncertainty and cautious consumer sentiment, the March employment numbers were strong for the overall economy and businesses of all sizes, though some sectors faced challenges,” said Nela Richardson, Chief Economist at ADP.

The report reinforces the view that, while certain industries may still face pressure, the broader private-sector job market remains on a solid footing.
